In response to all the powerful female energy surrounding our world today, I felt compelled to write. A woman is one magnificent and beloved creature and I am (and always will be) proud to be one. A march of sisterhood and unity, protesting from a place of love is something that lights me up inside. I think back to my great-grandmother, who once protested for the right for women to vote and who used her voice. We have a long way to go, but it is incredible how far we have already come.
Connecting with other women from different walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs and families; women who have triumphed, overcome, fought for equal rights and suffered from discrimination has only made me further appreciate the gender I am. I am fortunate to come from a long line of strong females. Women who have picked themselves up, ventured into the world alone, held their voices high, fought back and triumphed in times of despair. I hold their energy close before I set out to travel and recognize how much of a privilege it is for me to do something like this; something unfortunately countless females around the world will never know the freedom of. No matter what side you are on, the fact that we can take our voices to the level that we can, is remarkable. For this matter, I am more inspired than ever to work hard to be a strong female leader so I can help teach the next generation of girls that whatever they dream can come true- even if there are a million obstacles in the way.
Being a woman is a unique experience, but unfortunetely the media has created an enormous amount of pressure on us by defining the image of success and beauty. For those females who fight against this and love their imperfections, scars, and walk about this world in confidence, speaking up against discrimination and criticism, showing the younger generation that there are beauty in flaws and that your voice matters, I respect you. Keep being loud. Keep being fearless. For all the men who encourage this in their own daughters and families, I applaud you and hold you up high. We need more of you.
To all my sisters in this life who fight everyday for equality, who dedicate their lives to others, put themselves last and try to make a difference through peaceful expression and love; YOU are the reason for the future and the reason we are making progress.
As I gear up and prepare for this upcoming adventure, I think about all those women who will never be able to do the same. I will think of them when I open my eyes every day and remember all I have to be grateful for.
I hope to empower the younger generation through my own actions, to show that the female spirit is strong and you can do anything, if you put more emphasis on your mind and believe in yourself. That no matter what race, background, ethnicity, sexual orientation you come from- you are beautiful. I do not take lightly the enormous amount of freedom I have in this country.
I only hope that in the small corners of the world, where this freedom is not known, that one day it will be. That together we will unite and stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Energy is infectious and progress can often be slow, but moving forward is where we are heading and that is the best path we can be on.
What the world needs is more love and less criticism, so shine on you beautiful souls. No matter what your beliefs, keep lifting the world up. Together we will never go down. We are changing the future… one voice at a time.
